Skid Steer Electric Plug Needed To Run A Hammerhead Grapple Saw

2/22/2022

We get asked all the time, "can I use my auxillary electrical control plug to operate your grapple saw?".  Here's a breif explanation of each skid steer auxillary electrical control plugs:
8 Pin Plug - CAT & ASV/Terex
These plugs provide 12 volt DC current to the attachment so you can run attachments with 12v solonoids.

14 Pin Plug - Some Bobcats, Gehl, John Deere, Kubota, Mustang, New Holland and Takeuchi

7 Pin Plug - Bobcat
Since about 2000, Bobcat has used a 7 Pin plug that uses a CAN-BUS (digital) signal to control their attachments.  This plug will not work with non-Bobcat brand attachments that have any sort of 12v soloniod valves.  Bobcat offers a 14 pin plug option that can be added to your 7 pin machine and runs around $1,000.  Another option is to get a 7 pin adapter cable which runs about $350 - $750 depending on how many functions you require.  This cable will allw you to run standard 12v DC solonoids with your Bobcat 7 pin plug.  Please contact us for more information on these adapter cables.

What Makes The Hammerhead GS-44 Grapple Saw Better?

2/5/2021

So what makes the Hammerhead GS-44 grapple saw better than the competition?  Let's take a look!
  • Hammerhead grapple frame is built heavier
  • Hammerhead has a guard/reinforcement around the top clamp cylinder
  • Hammerhead has a solid support across the top of the frame vs. no welded in cross support on the competition
  • Hammerhead has a much heavier duty top clamp which takes a lot of stress, especially when you cut a longer log in half and you're supporting the half of the log that is still in the grapple and is extending out only one side of the grapple after cutting
  • Hammerhead has a steel saw bar oil tank vs plastic tank on the competition
  • Hammerhead uses a sealed bearing for our saw pivot, no greasing required
  • Up to 30" log diameter cut capacity, vs. 27" on the competition
  • Powder coated vs. painted
  • Standard right side saw mounting or optional left side saw mounting
  • Saw motor options
  • Cost less!
See Details Below:

Hammerhead grapple frame is built heavier - Just look closely at pictures and we think you'll agree that the Hammerhead is just plain built better.  Way more bracing & guarding to make it much sturdier than any competitor with a similar styled grapple saw.  In addition to being built better, we use A50 steel which is nearly 50% stronger than standard A36 steel.

Hammerhead has a guard/reinforcement around the top clamp cylinder - We weld in a guard to protect the clamp cylinder from getting damaged by a stick, branch or log.  This guard is also designed to reinforce our frame to make it much stronger than our competitors, which has no guard, and minimal bracing in the top portion of the grapple saw frame.

Hammerhead has a solid welded in support across the top of the frame vs. no cross support whatsoever on the other guys -  Our cross support is very heavy duty and provides a TON of strength at the top of the grapple frame, ensuring nothing is flexing or twisting as you pick up a heavy log, or when you're digging in a pile of logs.

Hammerhead has a much heavier duty top clamp - The top clamp takes a lot of stress, especially when you cut a longer log in half and you're supporting the half of the log that is still in the grapple and is extending out only one side of the grapple after cutting.  The clamp is no place to cut corners and when you compare us to the competition, you'll see that ours is much stronger & better reinforced.

Hammerhead has a steel saw bar oil tank - Steel vs plastic, need we say more?

Hammerhead uses a sealed bearing for our saw pivot, no greasing required - Less mainenance and no greasing means more time to cut logs.

Our grapple saws have a 24" (Std model), or 30" (XL model) log diameter cut capacity - The other guy claims that theirs will cut up to 27" and some of their dealers claim it'll cut up to 28.5" but that seems like a stretch from what we've seen.  Ask us and we'll send details and pictures showing how we calculated it.

Durable Powder
Coated Finish

Hammerhead products are powder coated to create a long lasting finish which helps to prevent rust & corrosion.  Spray paint is just not as durable.

Our standard grapple saws come with the saw on the right side (when looking from the cab of the machine).  We offer an optional left side mounted saw for customers who want to mount it on an excavator, telehandler, or single boom skid steer such as models from JCB & Volvo.

Saw Motors By
Hydro-Gear, Hydro Leduc,
Parker & Sunfab

We offer 4 saw motor options for those who have different needs & preferences.  Hydraulic saw motors are available from Hydro-Gear, Hydro Leduc, Parker & Sunfab.

Our Grapple Saw Costs Less! - Not only is it built WAY stonger, it also costs less.  That's what you call win-win!

Welcome To The Hammerhead Blog

2/1/2021

Introducing the new Hammerhead Attachments blog.  We will be posting information on our skid steer attachments here and adding job stories, new product announcements, product upgrades, as well as comparisons between our products and our competitors.

In the meantime, here's a rundown of our current product offerings:
  • GS-44 Grapple Saw - This unit is in production and is offered in 2 different models, the standard GS-44 and the GS-44 XL.  The standard model features a 24" maximum cut diameter and the XL features a 30" maximum cut diamater.  These grapple saws work great for land clearing, logging site landings, trail cleanup, tree service or for cutting firewood for an outdoor wood furnace.

  • GSR-55 Grapple Saw - This unit is in production and is available for your knuckleboom, excavator, or mount it on a skid steer or tractor with our optional boom attachment.  These grapple saws are great for working on a logginig site landing, in land clearing applications, or for cutting firewood rounds for an outdoor wood boiler.

  • SS Big Block Log Splitter - The SS Big Block is currently being revamped with a larger hydraulic cylinder and a stronger, more durable wedge design.  We expect to be testing the new design in the spring of 2022.
